What is the Pomodoro Technique?
The Method
The Pomodoro Technique is a time management method developed by Francesco Cirillo in the late 1980s. It uses a timer to break work into intervals, traditionally 25 minutes, separated by short breaks.
The technique is named after the tomato-shaped kitchen timer (pomodoro in Italian) that Cirillo used as a university student.
How to Use It
- Choose a task you want to work on
- Set the timer for 25 minutes (one "pomodoro")
- Work on the task until the timer rings
- Take a 5-minute break
- After 4 pomodoros, take a 15-30 minute break
